Hey mamas! How many of you have already started this years homeschool journey?
Well your in luck, I have come up with a small list of things that may help you not lose your mind!🤣 lets call it the nuts and bolts if you will.....
So grab some coffee, get settled in somewhere comfy and read on...
First of all, make sure that you create a comfortable atmosphere. Use couches, chairs, the floor, outdoors, etc. Sure desks are great. But remember you are in charge of your school day. The whole point of homeschooling is, it's not traditional school. You don't need to recreate the ideal classroom.
Though we have a classroom in our home, we also spend time reading in our book nook on big oversized chairs. We have done math lessons while having a picnic in the park, we have even done spanish review questions while on road trips. School is where you make it.
Just don't forget your coffee, those comfy chairs might make you sleepy lol.
Secondly, plan your days, but dont over think it. I know, that's so much easier said than done. But trust me, Let your days flow naturally. If the kids are loving your science lesson and asking lots of questions. Then let it take longer than anticipated. If math is killing them and you are fighting to get in the last 10 problems, save it for later or even tomorrow. Schedules are a great tool, But its just framework. Sometimes
it doesn't go quite as we plan. That's ok!
Blend your kids!!! I do this and can't stress it enough! I couldnt be happier with it... For subjects like science or history both of my children follow the same grade level curriculum. My 5th grader just doesn't do as much as I expect from my 7th grader. Think about it, there is no reason they both can't listen to me talk about Jamestown or photosynthesis. It will make your life so much easier. Come on who doesnt love that? So remember those lovely words... blend the subjects you can! (Things like Math and Language arts are probably best to stay at grade level and not blend.)
Don't just rely on textbooks! Field trips to the museum, aquarium, historical landmarks, or even nature walks are great ways to learn. While breaking the workbooks and "classroom" type setting. Remember we all need a break once in a while. Homeschoolers are lucky enough to have field trips as often as they'd like. As you can see in the picture below, we love getting outside!.....(A lot of places offer homeschool discounts. Just a friendly reminder from one frugal mama to another)
Be intentional, know what it is you want your children to gain from this year. Not just academically but socially and emotionally as well. Be practical though! We all want our children to be the best, the smartest, the prodigy, who knows what else. But you know what? Our kids are awesome just the way they are. They owe part of that to you! Stay the course and know, You are doing a great job!
Have an amazing day and hug those kiddos♡
