The best relationship of your life

Updated: Jul 19, 2023

Hey y'all and blessed Sunday to you.

Today in church our pastor talked about the importance of relationships. Where they start, and what they need to thrive and to bloom in todays world. He said, First they need to start with God. Do you remember back in Genesis when god said "Let there be light and there was light?" or when he created man from dust? You see we weren't created for "religion" but rather for a relationship with the very one whom created us.

All our existence, our being and all of the relationships we have had throughout our whole lives have been a part of his very plan. Now whether they were relationships to guide us, grow us or even teach us a lesson. None of them would have been possible without God.

Looking back on those said relationships. I'm sure we can all agree that, some caused pain, heartache and an emptiness within us. Why you may ask? Well because we are not created to find our happiness in another person.

Remember the famous line from the movie Jerry McGuire "You complete me" read that again, "You complete me!" all too often we look to others for comfort, strength, love. For them to fill a void in ourselves. But be honest, have you ever truly filled that void with a friend, a lover, a spouse? NO, each and everyone of you should be saying no. Because the truth is, he, our Father is the only one truly capable of making us whole. Of filling any void we have in ourselves.

Next, after seeking God. We need to start with me! Me, you may ask? that's correct. Me looking in the mirror. Looking deep within ourselves to the very core. What is it that we can do to make ourselves better? because if we are unhappy with ourselves, how on earth can any of our relationships be? Be it a relationship with your spouse, children, family, friend or even your dog lol. Happiness must first come from the Lord, than from within, before you are ready to give it to anyone else.

Have you ever heard the quote " A woman's heart should be so close to God that a man should have to chase him to find her." -C.S Lewis

How very true is this. Perhaps if God was the foundation of all our relationships whether with family, friends, whomever. They would be stronger, sturdier, ready to face the hardships that we all know are inevitable sometimes.

A neighbor of ours gave us a book for Christmas. The family devotional bible by Sarah Wells. "Stories from the bible to help kids and parents engage and love scripture" And though it was of course appreciated at the time and even used. Until today I didn't really see it in the truest of light.

I mean, What a wonderful, and truly thoughtful gift!

Its more than a book, but truly the act of bringing our whole family closer to the one who created us all. The one who gave us life and the family that we enjoy today.

We as Christian moms want our children to learn and understand Gods word. So what better way than to have both you and your spouse set the example for your children around the dinner table reading and sharing Gods word together.

Making him the foundation of your home will set off such a wonderful ripple in your life. One I'm sure will be one of the best relationships of your life. Don't just walk into church on Sunday and think, of course I have a relationship with God. A relationship is devoted, trusting and all encompassing. No amount of Christian activity compensates for an authentic relationship with Jesus!
