Are you and your family tired if sitting at home during this whole covid ordeal? I never realized how much we appreciated those movie theaters, bowling alleys and sleepovers with friends, did you?
I know that for my family, we have been enjoying the great outdoors a lot more! Well, when its not 106* and I don't feel like the witch from the Wizard of oz "I'm melting...." I actually appreciate the time to slow down, reconnect and enjoy more of an intimate time with my family, that you don't get sitting quietly in a dark movie theatre. Talking with my kids while hiking, or gardening in the yard. Truly embracing the moment. Rather than be caught in the hustle and bustle of activities, sports, and deadlines.
So below is a list of free and/or cheap things that you may or may not know of here in Virginia. Where you can keep your social distance, enjoy the great outdoors with your family, but most importantly get out of the house!
A great place for beaching, camping. Mini golf, quaint shops and if you're lucky enough, you might see wild ponies!
With areas to swim, tube the rapids, hike and camp. This offers a little of everything, for any age.
The dismal swamp is a great place to go for any nature enthusiast. From hiking. Bird watching, the auto tour and more. You can spend the day surrounded by all nature has to offer.
My family has been hiking crab tree falls for years! With breath taking views and a different experience for every season. It is a great hike! They even have camping and fishing areas close by.
Blue bird gap farm is a great place for animal lovers of all ages. Your family can walk around their petting zoo, feed the animals, have a picnic, enoy the trails along the water or play on the large playground.
These are just a few places to enjoy the great outdoors that are nearby or just a short drive away. So grab your kiddos, pack some lunch and enjoy!
